Bunny Care

Caring for a bunny, like any pet, takes work and responsibility. I have put together this care guide to help inform and educate people on how to care for their new pet bunny. This care guide is full of MY recommendations and how I care for my bunnies. Although I have a lot of experience, I am not an expert on rabbit health or diet so for further advice ask your veterinarian.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@lonestarlops.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No, feeding your baby bunny fruits and veggies can hurt their digestive system because it is so sensitive when they are young. You should also avoid any treats that are high in sugar and check all your bunny's toys for added sugar. The best toy options for baby bunnies are hay or wood-based toys.

As bunnies each have their own personalities this can be hard to say. But in general different genders tend to have different personalities. Females tend to be on the calmer side and want to cuddle and sleep more. Males tend to be more active and love to run around and get lots of attention. All of our bunnies are very social and have been handled a lot.

Bunnies are very social creatures and tend to enjoy having a buddy around. While this is not required, studies show that bunnies do tend to be happier when they have another bunny around. Do keep in mind though to keep two bunnies in the same pen (even if they are the same gender) they will need to be fixed to prevent them from getting territorial.

Neutered male + spayed female, This is the best pair because they tend to be more accepting of each other in their spaces. Two pairs of females may be more territorial towards each other, so I would not recommend this pair. Two males will be my second-best option because once they are fixed they aren't as territorial as females. When planning on bonding two bunnies it is super helpful to buy them from the same litter so they grow up together and are already used to living together. The younger they are when you bond them the better!

For my baby buns, I use the oxbow essentials young rabbit food until they turn one year old. I free-feed them until 6 months of age then they get 1/2 cup per day till they turn a year old.

adult bunny food

For my adult bunnies I use the mana pro complete food once they are a year and older. They get 1/3 cup per day.

timothy hay

All my bunnies eat this oxbow timothy hay as adults and babies. They get as much as they want. This helps grind down their teeth so they don't get overgrown.
